About us - Youth in Motion

Our story

Youth in Motion was established in 2017 in Northern Sydney.

We saw the lack of services available to young people doing it tough around us while at school.

We recognised our educational privilege and the support we received and saw those opportunities weren’t afforded to everyone.

We decided it was time for a change!

Youth in Motion: A snapshot

Providing services for more than 8 years

We have been providing services to at risk youth in New South Wales since we were founded in 2017!

More than 5,000 hours of tutoring provided

We have provided more than 5,000 hours of tutoring since we were founded in 2017

Youth led and volunteer organisation

Our average tutor is in their 20s. Many are young professionals who volunteer their time on top of their day job to support kids. They remember what it was like to be at school and want to help.

Safe and trusted organisation

We have qualified youth workers on staff and all our tutors hold working with Children’s Cards and receive special training to support at risk youth.

Youth in Motion is dedicated to the education of young people and the continuous education and growth of our team.

Youth in Motion values the importance of collaboration, within our organisation, with other organisations, and with young people, whose voice is crucial in informing and improving our services.

Youth in Motion aims to remain a passionate and authentic organisation centering young people.

Intersectionality

Youth in Motion recognises that different types of marginalisation and discrimination, resulting from structural policies and social inequity, are densely interwoven.

Sustainability

Youth in Motion recognises the importance of environmental sustainability, funding sustainability and the sustainability of our volunteers.

Our Timeline

2016 - we are founded!

Fresh out of high school, our initial founders started 'The Learning Project' which is now known as our main program at Youth in Motion! Initial research and development was started and we began at the Naremburn School as our pilot.

2017 - Rebrand

We finally became 'Youth in Motion Inc' and rebranded our whole presence and operating systems to what it looks like today. We also dedicated our time to becoming a registered charity within Australia.

2018 - Expanding

2018 marks the beginning of our amazing Art and Writing Competition in which beautiful artworks and writing were published into our annual magazine (2017-2020).

2019 - First partnerships

2019 was the year in which we deepened our roots within our wider community by partnering up with local Youth Services such as @pheonixhouse and @streetwork.
